Consider Joining the Friends of the National Library of Medicine
The principle advantage of being a member of the Friends is the knowledge that you are helping support one of the great educational institutes of the country. The National Library of Medicine's mission since 1836 has been to collect, organize, and disseminate medical information. At first, this was related principally to helping physicians in their bibliographic searches. With the development of computers and the Internet in the latter part of the 20th century, over 86 databases became available for research scientists. More recently, the NLM has developed information for the general public describing over 700 diseases in MedlinePlus and 500 genetic entities in Genetic Home Reference Databases.
Several classes of membership are available for corporations, institutions and individuals. We solicit your support, but also your comments on ways in which we can further help the library and the programs supported by the FNLM. For more information, please contact Richard Gelula.
