University of Pittsburgh
Dr. Conley’s research interests are in the field of molecular genomics. She has a fully equipped molecular genomics laboratory located within the School of Nursing that includes an extensive biorepository of a variety of biospecimens representing a variety of patient populations. Her lab is involved with several research projects and has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health for over 25 years. Her current research focuses on using omics approaches to understanding symptom development and patient outcomes after traumatic brain injury, stroke, cancer and therapeutic interventions for cancer as well as how non-pharmacological interventions can mitigate cognitive decline.
Danielle Fournier DNP, APRN, AGPCNP-BC, AOCNP
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Department of Thoracic Surgery
MD Anderson Cancer Center
It’s important for oncology nurses and advanced practitioners to understand the details and nuances of biomarker testing so they can “go on to serve as resources for the patients that they care for and help them to understand the need for testing,” Fournier said, noting that nurses and advanced practitioners can also “help identify eligible patients who should who should be tested and advocate for patients to get testing.”
Marilyn Hammer PhD, DC, RN, FAAN
Director, Phyllis F. Canter Center for Research Nursing and Patient Care Services, Division of Population Sciences,
Dana Farber Cancer Institute
Professor, Northeastern University
Bouvé College of Health Sciences School of Nursing
Dr. Hammer has dedicated her program of research to understanding associations between glycemic status, metabolism, and immune function in patients with cancer, including how these mechanisms impact risks for poor symptom experiences and outcomes. In alignment with precision health targets, the goals based on findings from these investigations are to develop a symptom risk assessment tool and design individually tailored interventions for improved symptom management and outcomes. In addition, Dr. Hammer has published a body of work related to precision health and associated ethical, legal, and social implications. She has presented her work nationally and globally, including countries in North and South America, Europe, and China.
