Friends of the National Library of Medicine to Honor Dr. H. Holden Thorp at Awards Gala

Washington, DC – The Friends of the National Library of Medicine (FNLM) is proud to announce that Dr. H. Holden Thorp, PhD, Editor-in-Chief of Science, has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Donald A.B. Lindberg Award for Distinguished Health Communications. This prestigious award honors Dr. Thorp’s exceptional leadership in scientific publishing and his unwavering commitment to advancing public understanding of biomedical and health sciences.
As Editor-in-Chief of the Science family of journals, Dr. Thorp has played a crucial role in upholding the integrity of scientific communication, ensuring that groundbreaking research reaches both the scientific community and the public in an accessible and responsible manner. His leadership has helped shape global discussions on critical scientific and health-related issues, ranging from pandemic response to climate change and emerging medical technologies.
Dr. Thorp’s distinguished career spans academia and publishing. Before assuming his current role, he served as the Provost of Washington University in St. Louis and as the Chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Throughout his career, he has been a vocal advocate for the importance of science in shaping public policy and has championed efforts to improve science communication for diverse audiences.

FNLM will formally present this honor to Dr. Thorp at the 2025 Friends of the NLM Awards Gala, to be held on September 8, 2025, at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in Washington, DC. The gala is a premier event bringing together leaders from the medical, library, and research communities to celebrate outstanding contributions to medical science, public service, and health information access.
