Barbara B. Frink, PhD, RN, FAAN, an outstanding leader in the field of nursing informatics in the US and around the world, will be honored with the Friends of the National Library of Medicine’s (FNLM) NURSING INFORMATICS AWARD at their 2023 Awards Gala.

The Friends of the NLM Awards Gala will be held starting at 6:00 PM ET on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington, DC. Registration is open to all.

“Barbara Frink richly deserves this award,” said the Friends of the NLM’s President, Barbara Redman. “Her leadership in the adoption of technologies in nursing that improve patient safety and quality of care, as well as her collaborative approach to leadership in myriad health care and nursing informatics associations and related initiatives have been extraordinary.”

Barbara Frink has had a distinguished career in health informatics and was most recently the Vice President and Chief Nursing Information Officer at MedStar Health. MedStar Health is a not-for-profit health system dedicated to caring for people in Maryland and the Washington, D.C., region, while advancing the practice of medicine through education, innovation and research. MedStar’s 30,000 associates, 6,000 affiliated physicians, 10 hospitals, ambulatory care and urgent care centers, and the MedStar Health Research Institute are recognized regionally and nationally for excellence in medical care. As the medical education and clinical partner of Georgetown University, MedStar trains more than 1,100 medical residents annually. The Friends of the NLM’s Annual Awards recognize scientific and medical leaders who have made significant contributions to health care, biomedical science, librarianship, and public health. These life changing awardees are our contemporaries and the Friends of the NLM has the honor of thanking them. Past recipients include Nobel Laureates, leading scientists who opened new fields of breakthrough discoveries, and developers of innovative technologies. In addition, outstanding health science librarians, leaders of public office, and those who have demonstrated a deep commitment to advancing medical and health science communication are among past and this year’s recipients.
